Ascertain If You Are Experiencing Night Panic Attacks
Living just 50 years ago was different than it is today. The stress put upon us and our ancestors was not as great as it is today. Many of us lose sleep and develop other ills. We tend to feel weary and worn after one of those sleepless nights. As this get worse, we begin to experience nocturnal anxiety attacks, which will disrupt not only our sleep pattern but our life.
As human beings we need to rest approximately every 16 hours. Our resting period lasts approximately 8 hours and then we're up again. We have to abide by this never-ending cycle because that is the way our bodies were designed. When something causes a disruption in the normal course of life, the sleep awake balance is lost and problems start to arise. People who have a tendency of sleeping less than usual are likely to suffer from chronic sleep problems and one such issue of concern is sleep panic attacks.
I say may because sleep anxiety attacks is not easily diagnosed. You see it is a mix of many symptoms that indicate various sleep disorders. So a reliable diagnosis may be delayed. During the onset of the night panic attacks, you will not be able to sleep well or much for that matter. This will obviously cause you much discomfort and make you very drained the for the rest of the day. When such a situation is encountered, it is recommended to seek a professional help.
The general symptoms of panic attacks while sleeping are insomnia, sleepiness during the day and abnormal sleeping patterns. Insomnia is more prevalent than the other two symptoms in the initial stages. Also panic attacks during sleep are standard with people having intermittent sleeping behaviors.
As much as 50% of all panic disorder sufferers experience some nocturnal anxiety disorder.
One of the worse side effects of panic attacks while sleeping is that the sufferers tend to develop a fear of sleeping and that increases their anxiety and complicates matters even more. Word of caution: do not try to address or resolve these problems with sleeping pills. They won't work and what you may end up with is an addiction that will complicate your situation.
Sleep panic attacks cannot be tied in to dreams as the attack tends to come upon at the earlier stages of Rapid Eye Movement or REM.Therefore, dreams cannot be held responsible for setting off panic attacks. Also, the occurrence of nocturnal anxiety attacks can result in sudden waking up, palpitations, breathlessness, fearfulness, perspiration and shudders. Such symptoms usually come when the person is in deep sleep.
The discovery of the causes of night panic attacks has not been made. Some have alleged that the buildup of carbon dioxide in the body while we sleep may be the cause. This is known to be the "false suffocation alarm."
Sleep panic attacks is treatable and can be eliminated with medications.
Nevertheless, medicinal drugs should be used as a last resort as these disorders can be cured with certain limitations and life changes. To be clear, we're talking about anxiety medications and not sleeping pills.
Panic attacks can also be cured if you can make peace with your own self; this is crucial You must first understand yourself and what is occurring before you make any attempts to explain it to your family or friends. The more you express the better for you. Apart from that you must make certain lifestyle changes as well - such as quitting or limiting smoking, caffeine and alcohol. These substances trigger the intensity of the attack. Additionally I would say that self help is the best help to cure night panic attacks.
